Instant payments with new recipient verification
Instant payments have been available at many banks for years. From October 2025 they become mandatory and free at all banks — plus a new recipient verification.
Fast transfers across all channels
From October 2025 instant payments are a mandatory and free option at all banks across all transfer channels — online banking, EBICS, mobile app, paper slips, self-service terminals. No amount limit, no extra cost, 24/7. Standing orders and scheduled transfers can run to the minute. For non-euro transfers within the EU, instant payments are planned for 2027.
Recipient verification for extra security
Also from October, recipient verification kicks in: banks check the recipient name against the IBAN. If the name on the transfer doesn’t match what the recipient’s bank has on file, the sender gets a warning and can abort. Confirming explicitly still allows the transfer. Business customers can register additional trade names; they can also opt out of recipient verification for bulk or instant bulk transfers.
The measure is a phishing safeguard: instant transfers leave the sender’s account immediately, making it harder to claw back fraudulent transactions. Treat warnings seriously when the recipient names diverge noticeably.
