The two German formats: ZUGFeRD and XRechnung
Both formats are based on EU directive 2014/55 and DIN EN 16931.
ZUGFeRD (“Zentraler User Guide des Forums elektronische Rechnung Deutschland”) is a hybrid format combining a human-readable PDF with a machine-readable XML embedded inside it.
XRechnung is an XML-only format aligned with German public-sector requirements. It does not include a PDF and is usually submitted to a central invoicing platform that automatically validates incoming invoices.
Acceptance and compatibility
ZUGFeRD is common between businesses; public sector invoicing typically uses XRechnung. ZUGFeRD versions 2.1.1+ include a profile that meets XRechnung requirements.

Service firms often dispatch invoices with an activity record, cost statement or order status. teamspace lets you define automatic attachments.
